ESScare - Support Education in Rural China

Our Vision for the Next Decade

By Education & Science Society, Inc. 1998

According to the "Chinese Almanac for Educational Statistics" (People's Publishing Bureau, 1996), there were 535,252 rural elementary schools, constituting 82.9 % of all elementary schools in China. Also, there were 47,032 rural middle schools, amounting to 58.8 % of all middle schools in China.

The Education and Science Society (ESS) has helped 1484 rural schools in the last decade by donating books through the rural library programs. However, this covers only 0.3 % of the rural schools that are in need of educational assistance. By the end of the next decade, we target to reach out to at least one percent of rural elementary and middle schools in China. This adds up to about 6000 rural schools. Our goal is to provide them with educational assistance and books, therefore enabling the school libraries to become a mini information and learning center for their local villages.

With the financial supports and loving care from our donors, ESS will continue to help many needy children. Many of these young students are from families with no educational budgets. They are eager to complete their middle school education.

On improving educational curriculums, ESS will continue to support and sponsor the rural school children's writing contest "Read to Discover". Since 1999, ESS has been sponsoring the rural teacher's contest program "Teach to Inspire" in order to encourage the exchange of their valuable teaching experience.

In addition, ESS plans to publish more teaching aids and guidelines, similar to the completed issues of "How to Learn History" and "How to Learn Geology". These issues are designed to serve as reference material for rural teachers. ESS intends to extend their visions and introduce them to the exciting scientific activities and well known teaching curriculums of western countries.

ESS will also encourages rural schools in China to include in their curriculums the reading and studying of Chinese Classics. This will allow the young children to benefit from our ancestor's wonderful wisdom and knowledge and will help them to develop self-respects and righteous spirits.

It is worth noting that there is no ESS trust fund or designated institution to sponsor or provide financial aids. The achievements by ESS in the last ten years are due to the dedication of our donors and volunteers. These accomplishments are made possible by the generous financial supports from individual donors like you. For the next decade, your continued support is critical. Based on our established foundation, we believe ESS will be able to achieve more in the future. Step by step, we can work together and contribute to a successful future!
