Adopt a Rural Public Library (ARPL)
How to Set Up
- The ARPL project team reviews proposals initiated by local government agencies in poor rural areas.
- Project agreements are signed with the local government and cultural agencies responsible for library management.
- The local government is responsible for the provision and maintenance of library space and facilities, with a full-time qualified library manager.
- ESS supports the purchase of books for the ARPL in an initial five-year period, after which continuation of funding is guaranteed by the local government.
- ESS representatives in Guangxi and Guizhou assist in research on local conditions, handling of funds and purchase of library books.
- Each ARPL usually requires a contribution of US$6,000, which may be remitted in full or by installments (initially US$2,000 and subsequently US$1,000 annually for four years). 95% of contributions are used to purchase books, the remaining 5% for administrative expenses in China. Sponsors receive feedback information including receipts from ESS.
